Hello readers during the pandemic, I have seen a huge surge in people looking for different ways to increase there physical fitness, one of these ways is running. For a lot of you, including me when I started out running looks intimidating, but after reading these tips it wont be long until you become one of those runners you see around your neighborhood.
1. Believe you can run:
Half of running is believing that you are ready for the run, the first part of your body to give up during a run isn't your legs, but it is your mind. This is caused by any previous attempts you have made with running, the notion that "oh I have failed before so why should I try again", so you have to delete that negative notion from your head and believe that you can run. That confidence will go with you for the rest of your future runs. I also suggest running with a friend or family member to build your confidence, and mind set. Remember with running its all about the mindset so believe you can do it. I know you can. One thing that helped me was setting a goal, running against my self to beat that goal really helped my mind beat that negativity that I built up.
2. Set a running plan:
You have now gotten past the worst part which is getting mentally prepared for this run, you have now run at least a few times, and hopefully you loved every minute of it, but if not it takes time, so hang in there. The next step for beginner runners is setting a regular running plan, the one I recommend is trying running for a minimum of 30 min for 3 days, or a minimum of 15 minutes for five days, plus long slow runs on the weekend for when you grow used to running. As always though its your decision just make sure its consistent.
3. Get some guidance:
Get a app to help achieve your goal such as coach to 5K. They set a certain amount of miles you have to run to achieve your goal which is very useful, by doing this you will also become faster by following the different coaching tips they offer. Therefore, set your goal and you will achieve them, by the next few weeks you will be running a bit faster than you are now.
4. Track you progress:
I highly recommend for you to keep a log of every run you go on with information such as your timing the distance you run, and your heart rate. I for one found this extremely helpful as it helped me achieve my goals faster, plus it made me want to become a faster runner. I started writing it on a notebook, but as you run more and space runs out you can also keep a online version.
5. Rewarding yourself after a run:
It is important to reward yourself after you have reached a milestone or a goal in your run. It can be anything from a rest day to a spa day. Running can be fun you just have to get used to it. Make sure to always listen to your body while running, or else you will end up with a injury. There are no rules to running you don't have to do any one thing to make running fun go with the flow, do whatever you need to do to enjoy your run.
